| Guest | Mapped Network Drive Not Persistent I have an XP Home desktop PC and a Vista Home Premium laptop. I have mapped a folder on the desktop PC as network drive Z: on the laptop. Originally, I clicked the checkbox that says, "Reconnect at Login." The problem with this is that if the desktop PC is off, the laptop takes maybe 3 times longer than normal to boot. So, I removed that network drive and re-added it, but this time I did not check the "Reconnect at Login" box. However, The next time I rebooted the laptop the network drive was not there! What I want is for the network drive to be always mapped, but for Vista to not seek a connection to it unless I browse to that drive. Doesn't this work in XP? I just don't recall having this problem before. |

| Guest | RE: Mapped Network Drive Not Persistent I don't think what you are trying to do is possible. THe only way to get it to only try an connect when you want to use it it to instead create a shortcut to the location. (right click and drag the share to your desktop, let go and select create shortcut here) I could be wrong though. | Guest | Re: Mapped Network Drive Not Persistent If the drives are mapped, they will work fine even if you are not connected to the network, as when vista boots it will just say that it cannot connect to all network drives, (Same as XP) I think the issue is that you are looking at the wrong problem, the problem is vista taking 3X as long to boot when disconnected from the network not how the network is mapped. Vince, this still won't work as the shortcut has to be created from something (Ie. your mapped Drive) Take a look at the msconfig and see if there is something that could be causing this slow down when attempting to connect to the network. my vista Business laptop has 8 Networked drives on it and I regularly boot at home while disconnected from the network and it works find -- Ontittech Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
