Sharing Drives

I have got a problem with sharing drives under windows vista.

If I was to create a partition on a disk using windows xp, and then install
vista, I would be able to share the volume, and other users would be able to
map to it and access it without any problems.

However, if I create a new partition on a disk under vista, other users get
an access denied error when they try to connect to the drive...

My only work around for this currently is to install xp, create a new
partition on the disk I want to share, then install vista and share it that
way, and it works fine. Obviously this is a complete pain to do everytime I
add a new disk to my pc.

I'd look at the cause behind the symptom. When you create a shared object,
permissions (Security / Sharing) will vary, according to the level of access
enjoyed by the account creating the share. Are you familiar with the
differences between Security and Sharing?

I'd compare permissions created, when the new partition is setup under Vista vs
under XP.

And look at other known issues with Windows Vista, which could apply differently
for shares created under Windows XP:

Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
