hi, been reading these forums for some time but this is my first post,
first off thank you all for loadsa helpfull info,
secondly i found this link, not sure if its real, and its really slow downloading (im still looking at 12hours so it says)

WU is windows update.
hey microsoft has not pulled down the SP1. i just downloaded yesterday afternoon
again its about 130Mb for me

Im running 32Bit Vista Business. Is it worth me downloading Sp1? I don't want to try this if its going cause problems. Im currently happy how my laptop is running.

Have just downloaded the full version from the OEM site. Installed it (took 75 mins ) then at the very end I got the message that the service pack did not install and then gave error code 0xC004F013. Ane to make matters worse the was a message on the screen saying that my version was not genuine when I know that this OEM version came from MS as part of the upgrade program last year. Has anybody had this problem ??

silver fox try running a disk error check then look for any updates in the update system then re install SP1... that worked for me
i used the RTM version though

edit: if you are unable to install SP1 because you have missing updates that will not install / give error codes such as 80073712 then try my quote below)

the chances are also if you have still been unable to fix this till now you will have other upates that will also not install
and without these updates you cannot install SP1

solution directions:

start - computer - right click C:/ - properties - tools - Error checking - check now - reboot - wait for vista to boot fully (no HDD activitie) - start - control pannel - windows update - check for updates (dont skip this part) - reboot - install SP1 - enjoy
