Well it's been a long wait for some of you, but SP1 has finally been released.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an update to Windows Vista that addresses feedback from our customers. In addition to previously released updates, SP1 will contain changes focused on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues; supporting new types of hardware; and adding support for several emerging standards. SP1 also will continue to make it easier for IT administrators to deploy and manage Windows Vista. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone version can be installed on systems with any of the following language versions: English (US), French, German, Japanese, or Spanish (Traditional).

You should now be able to grab SP1 from windows update or you can download the stand alone packages from the following links.

z3r010, it looks like you and I had the same idea - I was just getting the download of the service pack started in Flashget when I figured to post a sticky with the links.

You beat me to it. Though you might want to edit your post to let people know how big the standalone packages are. Now is about the time that I'm cursing Telkom for their [self-censored] ADSL service - Even with Flashget acceleration the x64 download is only going to be done in 6 hours!

For the geeks among us, if you want to integrate Vista SP1 into your installation DVD, so that if you format and reinstall, SP1 is part and parcel of the package, you can use the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Deployment Guide.

i still can't see it through the WINDOWS UPDATE and I will wait for that. The file size there should be smaller and they might check the competability for the computer u r running.

from the Vista Team Blog:

"We released SP1 in these 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese. If you have any other language installed, SP1 will not yet be offered to you."

I downloaed x64 SP1 for my OEM Vista some weeks back when it became available on windows update. Then a few days later they took it down due to some other update that had problems.

Should I uninstall SP1 and then re-install using these new links/through update?

My Computer

Hi David, Windows Update will take care of everything for you. Just make sure that your update settings are such that updates will download and install automatically, and you shouldn't have to do anything or make any choices. Those are usually the default settings. Now if you want to let Windows Update get SP1 today, you can simply go to Windows Update through the Control Panel and click on check for updates. Windows Update will take care of everything else.

It says to use WU for single computers. Any problem if one uses the update that is available at the Microsoft site on a single computer? My Windows Update is not picking up the SP1 update availability.
