Firefox Guinness World Record

Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours.

From on June 17, 2008 to June 18, 2008... 8,002,530 million people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web.

Re: Firefox Guinness World Record

WOW!!!!

That is truly an ASTOUNDING NUMBER of downloads in one 24 hour period!

8 million plus in one day, and I wasn't even aware that V3 was out of Beta build yet. In fact last time I looked, like 2 weeks ago, they were still recommending V2 for all but the most ardent FF users. Apparently there were allot of people that were watching for the V3 Public Release Candidate very closely.

Tell the truth, I only started using FF about a month ago. Up till then I had been using Avant Browser for like...well, forever really. It comes with everything FF has as plug-ins but Avant has it as standard fare so you never have to go looking for them or worry about all those seperate upgrades. But Avant never really had any "Flair" when it came to skins and since I Love color & Style on my computer, I changed to FF mainly for that.

Avant still has features that are better than FF, and in many ways it's allot easier and a better tabbed browser system. Many of it's tab features I would really like to see FF try and impliment some day.

Anyway, I guess it's time to go check V3 out...Thanx dmex!!

Re: Firefox Guinness World Record

Hiya John

Yah, I know everyone and their pet rat uses FF these days, either that or IE cause they simply don't know any better (yet), but that is a BIG number of d'loads for a single day isn't it. I wonder what the previous record was and what program held it, besides a Win Update that is. I guess a quick search is in order soon..

I've also tried em all John, or the major ones anyway. I used Opera side by side with Avant for awhile a few years back but I always seemed to find more usefulness in Avant than the others I was trying, so it's stayed my main browser for ages now. I've gone Opera, Slim Browser, Amaya, Phoenix, Dillo, and some others I forget the names of now...probably just as well because they were pretty forgettable.

I Love Avant still and if I had the time (or the talent) I'd make my own skin and stick with it but I wanted to give FF another shot. I may still go back to Avant, I'm not sure yet because I think it still has more usability features than FF does ATM and you don't have to search thru 25 pages of plug-ins to get them either.
One thing that does get annoying with it tho is that the developer seems to release a minor build update a week and sometimes more, so you always get prompted to get the new build, but it installs fast and easy and it imports all your settings reliably so it's just a minor annoyance really.

Re: Firefox Guinness World Record

You guts should check out Mine feild. Its x64 FF3

I use all 3 browsers regularly. FF3 X86, minefeild and IE7.

I got to admit I used FF before V3 and was not that trilled. But with version 3 I am coming around.

But I still like IE7. Looking foward to 8.

I did hear a rumor that Microsoft was scraping IE8 and was going to use FireFox as the default browser in Windows 7.

That is an unconfirmed "rumor"! Dont belive it untile its verified by Microsoft.

The future is looking stranger everyday.

Re: Firefox Guinness World Record

A good number of plugins have caught up - as well as add-ons.

Some will probably be abandoned, and some have been incorporated into other add-ons....but that always happens...there are 1.0 specific addons gone, 1.5 left in the dust, and now 2.0 specific ones that are crying mournfully on the shoulder of the road as the Fx 3 behemoth thunders down the highway.
