Microsoft prepares to auto-deliver Windows Search 4.0 to Vista users

Quote:
Windows Search 4.0 is delivered to Windows Vista users as a "Recommended" update, which are installed by default on Vista systems. In order to opt-out of receiving the replacement search, users must uncheck the box in the settings for Automatic Updates.
I didnt think "recommended" updates where installed by default?

If you have automatic updates set to automatically install, it doest download/install recommended updated unless you change its settings and select the option "incude recommended updates when downloading, installing..." under windwos update.

I guess it would be selected by default if you installed updates manually

I have never touched my windows update settings and mine has included recommended ticked, I'm sure this is the default behavior for vista.

Hmmmm, mine is unticked and i never touch it
Normally it should be unticked here by default, it was one of the prerogatives of the EEC court, so maybe it depends of the country where Vista is sold.

Good point Sid - *US* default installs are checked by default - and possibly other installs as well.

Recommended Updates dont automatically get selected on New Vista installs down here, even using US country settings...

I also spotted Windows Search 4.0 show up under recommended updates but after doing a few other updates it has dissapeared
