Re: Microsoft, Akamai Join Forces to Provide HD Streaming Video Service for PCs

HD video is high bandwidth stuff. I wonder is the gloom and doom merchants are finally going to be able to say they were right?

"As web TV becomes increasingly popular, it may bring down the Internet, warns Google. Reuters reports that Google is expressing doubt on whether the Internet can support the growing demand for online video. As Google’s head of TV technology told the Cable Europe Congress, “The web infrastructure, and even Google’s (infrastructure) doesn’t scale. It’s not going to offer the quality of service that consumers expect.” Indeed, quality has already declined thanks to heavy P2P video file sharing through BitTorrent and other networks - so much so that cable operators claim they have to invest heavily in their infrastructure just to keep up."
