Saw the notice for this earlier Nigel but thanks for the post, I've got mine set to automatic and have Office 2007 so will get the lot in the background.
I'll just have to tell the XP to install though, that's got Office 2003 so will probably get most of them as well. ;)

I think part of Microsoft's policy on this type of thing is, as they are trying to patch vulnerabilities before the malware writers can use them, it's not the best idea to inform everyone, including the malware writers, of the nature of the potential problem before they issue the patch ;):geek:

Yea I suppose you're right, Barman. MMO games like Star Wars Galaxies have the same policy; If they fix an exploit, they won't release patch notes for it and just silently fix it.

Though Exploit Wednesday (as opposed to patch Tuesday) can be some hacker's dream as if they find vulnerabilities within the new patches, it's the longest possible time before Patch Tuesday again.

Whichever way MS decide to address any security vulnerabilities is fine by me provided that they continue to maintain their proactive stance. I'd far sooner have an issue sorted before the malware writers breech the defences, that have to carry out a massive mop-up after such an event.

I was ready for the updates today, and had them all installed this morning
by 5.20am local time, Wed 10 Dec 08 [11.20am Tue 09 Dec - US Pacific Time] :D

In all, there were 14 Updates, 2 recommended and 12 important, and covered the following range of programs and applications; MS Office System including Excel and Word, Junk E-mail Filter, Vista systems, the Malicious Software Removal Tool and a security hole in Internet Explorer 7. The exercise took no more than 20 minutes to complete, including the re-start.

Thanks go to Nigel and other like-minded Forum Members, who try as much as they can to keep us all in a pro-active, and subsequently safe and trouble-free operating environment. :D

Got mine today, 13 for Vista and 8 for XP, of course some of them were for Office 2007 on Vista and Office 2003 on XP, all downloaded installed and rebooted without a problem. ;)
