Windows Live Essentials (including Messenger) beta refresh

While everyone was expecting a public RC of the Wave 3 applications last week, a beta refresh made it out this week over at download.live.com. Windows Live Essentials, which refers to the suite of Windows Live client applications (as opposed to web services), consists of a long list of software: Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Writer, Toolbar, Family Safety, and Office Outlook Connector (which is mysteriously missing in this release). This release includes two new additions, Office Live Add-in (which allows you to open and save documents directly to your online workspace) as well as Silverlight.

Re: Windows Live Essentials (including Messenger) beta refresh

Thanks Slimy got mine yesterday all downloaded and installed without problems, I'd already got Silverlight so didn't need to do that one.

One of these days I might even try out Messenger

Is this still beta? I downloaded the latest versions today, and the "beta" monikers appear to be removed from the apps. Messenger is still having trouble keeping an accurate number for mail. -.-;

From what I understand, yes it's still in beta.

Yup, Live! Applications just don't support XP x64. You can install the applications manually though, through their MSI.

Re: Windows Live Essentials (including Messenger) beta refresh

i did try this new Messenger but unfortunately for me there seems to be some kind of memory leak or something similar... well my system is a little bit of colour at the moment so that could be why but what i was experiencing was after 10 mins or so i would start to see message lag and around 20 mins later it would be imposable to communicate with anyone...you could still send and receive messages but there would be at least some 10 mins delay before you saw what you were typing or even what someone else had typed.... so for me i have to stick with an older version of Messenger

Oh and by the way... if you hadn't noticed already, there is no options to configure you web cam.... leaving you only able to use Messenger default wich in my case gave a very blocky resolution

I just don't understand why the had to fix things that were not broken to start with
