Vista - Rumor: three options for upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

Back in November, I explored the number of editions of Windows 7 that Microsoft was working on. While the company has not officially given a list yet, it was clear that Windows 7 Enterprise Edition and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition were definitely coming. Furthermore, there was an obvious avoidance of naming a Windows 7 Business Edition, though there was a mention of a Windows 7 Small Business Edition. While doing a little more digging, I stumbled on the following upgrade paths for Windows Vista to Windows 7. These are not confirmed, but I am told they are what Microsoft is currently considering:

• Windows Vista Home Premium Edition => Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
• Windows Vista Business Edition => Windows 7 Professional Edition
• Windows Vista Ultimate Edition => Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

Thanks for that slimy I think I read about this somewhere else with the upgrade path being as you say version to version

hmm don't suppose vista users will get a free windows 7 upgrade.... compensation like....so to speak haha...

Interesting about the Business Edition => Professional though....

Well, using a name that was widely accepted already is quite common. For example, Quake => Quake 2 => Quake 3 >_<, so XP Professional => 7 Professional is ok.

I just hope Windows 7 Ultimate... will actually be ... Ultimate. Because that DreamScene stuff is already available on XP thanks to Stardock and cheaper. (is the only "ultimate" thing worth mentioning)

On comparable hardware, W7 blows by Vista tick for tock, and is more secure, easier to manage, and a lot prettier too.

I dont think this will be relevant just look at the reaction here everyone wants it!!

I agree with you. Windows 7 will be a runner they have learnt from Vista and made all the right Tweaks

Convincing the Business world to change might not be so easy though

I have Vista Home Premium, I wish i could upgrade to W7 Ultimate....I mean you pay the same amount regardless so wtf?

i will be upgrading straight away.Sounds like W7 isnt a resource hog
