| | Vista - What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly I'm one of those users who has been using Vista with no problems ever since Microsoft gave out RTM copies to beta testers. However, as a writer, I've watched the media completely destroy the public opinion of Vista, leading many to stick with Windows XP or to look for alternatives, even before they had tried Vista. Even with SP1 out, many have not bothered trying Vista on recent hardware and therefore could not realize the fact that it really is worthy of being XP's successor. If I had to lay the blame on one party for Vista's poor public opinion, I wouldn't lay it on Microsoft, I wouldn't lay it on hardware companies incapable of producing good drivers, I wouldn't lay it on the fact that XP is so good, I would lay it on the media for blowing things out of proportions. Yes, the problem is exaggeration (it's in this article's title too, in case you missed it); bloggers and journalists alike use their personal experiences to prove their point in their writing. The blame doesn't solely lie with us, as Vista was by no means perfect, but we did manage to amplify the problems beyond reason. And if the beta is anything to go by, Windows 7 is going to fly. This is, by far, the best beta operating system the software giant has ever released. The media has locked on to this, and is using exaggeration already, before Windows 7 is even ready for prime time. Full Story: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly |

| Microsoft® Windows® Vista™ Ultimate x64 | Re: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly I installed the beta version of Windows Se7en on one of my drives. And man, does it work beautifully. Its is as said the best beta I have encountered and perhaps even the best OS. It seems like 7 is just a completed Vista. It is what Vista should have been. Great piece of work. |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly Hi , At the bottom of this page Download the Windows 7 Beta It had all the drivers I needed - as with Vista , some printers and cameras have a hard time - but that's the manufacturers not releasing updated drivers. You may find this handy http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_w...lled_first.htm And here's a free .iso burner - if you're not familiar with iso burning - don't format the recordable dvd - if Autoplay pops up, just close it. http://www.ntfs.com/downloads/Iso-burner.zip Have fun SIW2 |

| Windows 7 RTM 64-bit | Re: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly Its just the way how to advertise the product. Windows 7 has gained nothing but advertisements. Whereas, Windows Vista died because of rumours and hatred. I've been using Windows 7 beta and found a couple of issues with it. im still waiting for the final release. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly I too have been using Vista since the beta days and really like it. I'm currently running Ultimate x64 and though it was a chore at first, drivers & software issues, things have gotten a lot better and performance is just as good as XP. I also like the addition of things like Aero, Gadgets, and the way Windows Explores displays items and folders, which to me is much better then XP. I think the biggest problem with Vista, other than the initial slow performance prior to SP1's release, and getting use to the new interface, is that it makes you spend money, i.e. a lot of software and hardware had/has to be upgraded to run Vista, and that became a cost as well as a compatibility issue, which the media and critics harped on. Lucky for me, I had built this machine with Vista in mind, so my hardware was fine, though I did have to do some software upgrades, especially after moving to Vista 64. At any rate when people hear (courtesy of the critics), they have to spend money on a broken OS, they tend to shy away. Unfortunately part of this was/is true (software & hardware upgrades). Yes, consumers understand upgrades and will do them when necessary, but not on the scale of modders, tweak artists, and PC enthusiasts; mainstream consumers just want something that runs and works. XP has that right now because of its longevity…which is also a negative against Vista. With Windows 7 and the positive reception it’s received thus far, those who have shied away from Vista or have been hesitant about leaving XP, will probably be willing spend to upgrade to an OS that has received such high praise and fanfare from the press and critics alike that really hadn’t been seen since…XP? And they’re being told that Window 7 is/will be a worthy upgrade over XP, and a “broken” Vista. FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) killed Vista; Hype is giving life to W7. The one big positive about Vista though is that it seems to be pushing 64-bit onto mainstream consumers at a far larger rate then XP 64 ever did, and software vendors realize this are finally starting to support 64-bit more and more each day, and it’s about time. Go into any mainstream computer store/outlet and you can buy Vista 64-bit machines right off the shelf; you didn't see this with XP; I myself didn't get into 64-bit till Vista. So though the media/critics spew contempt for Vista, I don’t think they can deny the impact it has on pushing the 64-bit revolution to the forefront. To me that's a big plus for Vista. Windows 7 should make x64 even more commonplace once it’s released. So do I do think Vista got a bad rap? Yeah, and Microsoft didn’t help things by accelerating the release date of Windows 7...right on the heels of Vista. Hmmm…shades of Window Millennium Edition? Or is Windows 7 destined to be a lite version of Vista? Things could get real interesting with the release of SP2 for Vista looming right around the corner. Just my two cents. Incidentally I have copy of Windows 7 x64 sitting on my machine, but I’ve yet to play with it. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: What killed Vista will make Windows 7 fly Windows 7 does indeed fly, lets hope they dont change it at the last minute like they did with vista!!!!! A few things dont work but thats down to 3rd party apps old drivers at the mo. Vista gets a really bad press and it annoys the hell out of me, like "its a dog of an OS" 4 example ppl have said!! total rubbish!! Alot was down to bad 3rd party drivers, its matured now n with service pack1 it works gr8!!! And belive me i was a basher of vista When i 1st tried the beta..to be honest it just wasnt ready at the time!!! I have no real problems at all now and i would never go back to XP!!! The blame could be pointed at OEM's i feel, as they sent out PC's that just werent powerfull enough to run vista (ram is so cheap now there's no excuse!!!) Apple wouldnt sell a computer to the consumer if it couldnt run the OS, microsoft dont make computers so they shouldnt take ALL the blame!! Trouble with ppl off the street is they dont understand, like OSX, of course they 'may' seem to work better, but the hardware is chosen and tested to work specificly to work with OSX n everyone gets the same hardware!!! If Microsoft built their own harware pc's specifically for their OS im sure they would work better as well!!!!!!! |
