| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 TECHNET | Google tool unmasks ISP throttling Quote: Google is hardly the poster child for empowering users to free themselves from the control of internet firms, but a new tool called M-Lab (Measurement Lab), announced today in association with the New America Foundation's Open Technology Institute and the PlanetLab Consortium, will detect if ISPs are engaging in throttling or blocking particular applications. You pay for an internet connection like any other service, right? What you see is what you get? Not exactly. Internet service providers (ISPs) have been known to throttle, or limit, the amount of data transmitted from certain applications, most often peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing sites and BitTorrent services. |

Running speed tests, I'm consistantly well down [12%] on Bigpond stated of 1500kb/s speed. Have you any results for yours and what efficiency % is yours at? My latest; ![]() Always amused at the <50 miles distance. Try 1250 miles. |

| Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate x64 SP2 Windows 7 7127 x64 | Re: Google tool unmasks ISP throttling I eventually got through and the test started - but guess what it stopped and basically told me that it cannot run a test on my ISP in the UK. So what good is that? Apolgogies to Glasnost Now got through and this is the result Last edited by echrada; 02-01-2009 at 05:06 AM.. |

| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 : Seven Ultimate x64 | Re: Google tool unmasks ISP throttling Just tried it myself and it confirmed what I've always believed. My ISP is full of sh*t. They are renowned for P2P 'prioritization' during off peak (midnight-midday), that much is not a surprise. However they have always claimed that there is zero throttling in place during the Peak period. The glasnost test back ups what I see when downloading and that there IS throttling occurring during the peak period. Bl**dy liars |
