I see no problem with it verifying that windows is a legit install......

Most of the data collected at this time (since it is a Beta) has to do with how the program behaves in testing.

Re: Microsoft Security Essentials beta available

Every time i use windows update Microsoft collects data from my pc and im willing to still use it. I really dont see the difference if they collect it through their antivirus as well. At least we may end up with better Operating Systems from the data they colect, unlike google who collect info from their apps and give me nothing great back in return.

One thing i did notice though is that i have my windows update set to manaul and after installing this it was set to automatic and had already downloaded a ton of stuff by the time i noticed. Its not a big deal as i just set it back to manual but its something to be aware off.

Oh and if you want to give Microsoft feedback on this app then go to: https://connect.microsoft.com/securityessentials and sign in and then use the feedback button.

Only real problem I see in this is down to one word...Most. So what (in Detail), is not included in Most?? Don't get me wrong..I am a big Windows user and liker...BUT..I hate and distrust monopolies of any kind, with one exception--if I had one! Seriously, though,I prefer to use software from someone who only specialises in one area,I feel I'm getting the best of their efforts without feelings of mistrust about someone trying to gain control over all my software. MS have not had a great response to date on any of their added security suites, and IMHO,nor they should. Stick to the core stuff guys and make it the best it can be..let others in the industry make a living too. Competition is a very healthy situation, monopolies never are in any circumstance.

Re: Microsoft Security Essentials beta available

Another problem I have experienced is with Defender..I allow it to do it's thing as it was intended to do. Has it ever found a thing?..NOOOO!! Yet ,two other very widely used programs (also free) often find adware, malware ,cookies etc. I am a tad wary of something that so obviously does not do what any other garden-variety,free program can and does do.It hints at some sort of collusion between some adware/cookie lodgers and the parent company of the so-called security software. My computer is that..it's mine! It does not belong to anyone else,my privacy is mine to do with as I want instead of being compromised by so-called "friendly" sites.I believe in retaining control over my own surroundings, including my online habits. What I do not believe in is the free-for-all information sharing that no-one can deny goes on in computer related activities.

Its not a matter of cant afford. Its a matter of wanting the best and right now its the best and is free so why pay for one.
