All too often, people see the advent of security and other OS patches as a bad thing. They seem to think that such is evidence of a flawed or incomplete OS. In my view, security and operational patches are a good thing. It means that someone has taken the time to examine and fix the problem. Let's face it, as long as we still have 'script kiddies' with too much time on their hands, or organized crime for that matter, we are going to have vulnerabilities. My hat is off to Microsoft for having the kajones to quickly patch a first release.

Just to put things in perspective, I had occasion a few days ago to install Fedora 11 on a computer. I had to download over 400 (yes, that is four hundred) security and operational patches. Compared to that, Vista and Se7en are a walk in the park.
