How we really designed the look and feel of Windows 7

An inaccurate quote has been floating around the Internet today about the design origins of Windows 7 and whether its look and feel was “borrowed” from Mac OS X. Unfortunately this came from a Microsoft employee who was not involved in any aspect of designing Windows 7. I hate to say this about one of our own, but his comments were inaccurate and uninformed. If you’re interested in learning more about the design of Windows 7, I suggest reading this AP story with Julie Larson-Green as well as these WSJ (membership required) and Fast Company articles. And here is one of many blog posts on the E7 blog discussing the design process of Windows 7.

......and from this AP story here:

Washington Times - Meet Microsoft's antidote to Vista (software)

:huh:comes this little beauty of a quote;

Washington Times on Julie Larson-Green; quoting Steve Ballmer said:
"Some people are great at having ideas and [have] no discipline. Some people are great at discipline, not much at ideas," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in an interview. "She's got both of those genes."

......so which way do her genes boil over? This way maybe?

'Some people have no discipline and are not much at ideas'.

......it's all in the mind, you know!

Didn't they just use what was already available to Microsoft and then just cut it all down to size so that it worked properly...I find this answer a more accurate than any...

Well, some corporate excecutives are functionally illiterate. I met one several years ago who had problems spelling his own name. I guess he didn't think to look at his company ID badge we all had to wear there. Of course, it would have been upside down...

Of course, the original icons, database, mouse, trackball, keypad thing came from the Xerox test and research facility in Palo Alto, California in 1968. But when they showed it to American business leaders, they failed to comprehend. So it was not used until the Mac, Lisa, and Amiga computers came out. Microsoft didn't invent the icons and desktop system of access to a computer, it is decades past time for them to stop pretending they did so.
