Faster, Safer Chrome 17 Browser Hits Stable Channel

Google promises Web surfers a "faster browser, safer downloading" with Chrome 17, the newest build of its popular browser to land in the stable channel. To back up those claims, Google made it so the omnibox predicts which site it thinks you're trying to visit and will now autocomplete as you start hammering out a Web address. On the security front, Crhome 17 checks executable files against a whitelist to try and find a match. If it doesn't find one, Chrome checks in with the mothership (Google) for more information and to see if the site you're trying to visit is known for distributing malware.

I'm using 18.x snap shots. I've read on another site where they offer a 19.x snap shot. Seems Chromium has ambitions to be a Gui for the Web, instead of just a "browser." Sounds to me like feature bloat is not far off. :(

Think I'll be sticking with 18.x for as long as possible.

edit: I can't resist. I tried another snap shot. 19.0.1046.0 seems to work fine. I see there's a featured beta 19.x release on the download sites that's slightly newer.

It's me again, I am using IE9 and thought of trying Chrome, Brink's suggestion of chrome 17 seems a safe choice I did try Chrome about 18 mths ago but could not get on with it any pointers would be welcome. Thanks

I did install chrome and it is a great improvement save for the spell check which is a bit of a chore

There's a freeware I use sometimes called Text Editor Anywhere It's a hotkey that automatically selects all text in a browser form or editor applet and pastes it into the editor of your choice. When done with the edit, it pastes it back. Good if you have an editor with a quality spell check or grammar checker.

Sometimes I use Selector, which I wrote. Select text and hit the hotkey, then you can load it in an editor or other application via clipboard or as a temp file. Selector is free for you to use at your own risk. You can download here:

Thanks Miles I was hoping for something similar to the IE9 that I have which is so easy but I may try yours.
I am getting use to the chrome one slowly

Also there may be some extensions I don't know about. One thing I like about Chromium coming from Firefox is I don't need many AddOns. I missed them at first. But I only need about 1/2 a dozen now. Of course I'm not a big Tab freak or that may be different. :)
