Windows XP, Vista Miss Out on Office 2013

Microsoft has confirmed that the new Office 2103 will not run on older PCs powered by Windows XP or Vista.

"The new Office will work with Windows 7 and Windows 8," a Microsoft spokesperson said Monday in an email reply to questions about Office 2013 and Office 365. "Vista or XP will not support the new Office."

Users running those operating systems will not be able to advance beyond Office 2010, the suite that launched about seven months after Windows 7.

I'm surprised that they are ruling out Vista.

Pushing the idea of buying a newer OS. If people want it bad enough, they'll buy 7 and up. Money in MS's pockets.

I can understand dropping XP, but not Vista. Seems like a bad decision to me. Anyway, I've tried Office 2013 and I hate the Metroified look. Also, the icons are weired on my taskbar when surrounded with Aero icons. I just can't stand looking at the interface of Offie 2013. I guess I will eventually upgrade to Office 2010 after 2013 comes out, so I can get it for a lower price.

If memory serves me, this "cloud" thingy has been pushed by different firms and people for around 25 years, and it never seems to get off the ground (even when it is called a "cloud")

Wasn't using a distant server called a "dumb terminal" or "thin client" years ago?

For me... My need for using a remote server for my data is near zero.

So... "No cloud for you, Vista and XP users" is a big yawner.
