Windows XP is a ticking time-bomb with only 500 days to go

The countdown clock has been ticking on Windows XP for a couple of years now, but the end is coming into view. There are only 500 days to go before Microsoft ends its extended support, and that means no more patches and no more security fixes. Given that XP is not exactly famous for its security, this represents a significant risk.

Unfortunately many businesses will be stuck with XP until they can get their custom applications compatible with 7. That isn't as easy as it sounds considering that the have to find the time and expenses to undertake such a project. The average home user shouldn't have any problems doing so but more than likely they will have to get a new computer especially if what they have came out just about the same time as XP. Unfortunately there will also be die hard users that will refuse to upgrade even though XP has already been shown to be insecure. Therefore I predict that there will still be millions of XP users when the clock stops ticking.

I have seen some **** in my time but this must beat it. Has anyone never heard of third party programs for security such as a firewall.

If it is that outdated and MS are that worried they should offer a cheap upgrade.
