Outlook.com outage leaves users locked out of accounts

Numerous users of Outlook.com were unable to access emails via the service on Monday after they were locked out of their accounts.

The problem left certain users unable to log onto the online email service via desktop or mobile from at least 10am until at least 5pm GMT. There are also reports of sluggish loading on the Outlook.com site from those able to log into the service.

That's one reason why I haven't switched. The other is because I don't use my MSN account. Whereas I'm sure that they've done beta testing and testing on lower level environments now that they are pushing the switch there are significantly more users than before which is in itself a true test of online software and frequently revels if there are any problems. I think that the world of server services for large infrastructures is much more complicated than most people realize or even appreciate. Even within that realm most people have their own little niche so a complete grasp of the complexities of it all is rare. There could be any number of causes. Perhaps there was an update over the weekend. I think that if more people had a grasp of how complicated it is they wouldn't complain about little, temporary delays. I certainly don't. Just try back later.

You realize switching an msn or hotmail account changes nothing but the interface eh? My account still logs into a live.com address, not an outlook

If I remember right from an article previously posted, that site is going bye bye and users will be forced to switch. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if they do that.

Microsoft designed Outlook.com to replace its Hotmail product, which it acquired in 1997, and the general availability marks the start of that process. The Hotmail name won't disappear entirely, but Outlook.com will become Microsoft's sole free consumer e-mail offering.
In a phone interview last week, Senior Director of Product Management Dharmesh Mehta said existing Hotmail users can switch over at anytime. You'll be able to keep using your "@Hotmail" address and you'll have the option to claim an "@Outlook.com" alias, as well.
Users who don't switch over on their own will be upgraded in waves to the new product automatically starting this week. Mehta said that the process should finish by the summer, though he declined to name an exact date.

Yha the service is "outlook" but runs their live server, as I've switched already and that's the address in my address bar.

Though I connect only via messanger still.
