Microsoft may delay Vista SP1 (µ)

Quote:
DARK, SATANIC rumour mills are turning out a claim that Microsoft plans to forget all about SP1 until at least 2008. The theory is that Windows Vista update can fix any of the major bugs and besides Service Packs cause a lot more trouble to corporate users than they are worth.
Microsoft Watch says that SP1 will appear in 2008 but that could be slowed still further now that Microsoft has agreed to pretend to change its search engine to appease Google and anti-trust authorities.
But this will cause some major problems as corporates are not going to want to roll out Vista until the first service pack appears. Microsoft Watch quotes Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies Associates as saying that if the Vole delivers SP1 in the first quarter of 2008, early deployments would start around the third quarter, with mass deployments beginning in early 2009.
Microsoft's bottom line will take a pounding if no-one buys Vista until SP1 comes out. Perhaps this is the reason why they are suddenly spending oodles of notes on a publicity campaign to get make sure that people don't wait.
Of course Microsoft's partner Intel seems to think it will be October or November of this year, despite Steve Ballmer saying that he had not got one planned. µ
