Microsoft apologizes for Ultimate Extras Embarrassment

Quote:
When we launched Windows Vista in January 2007, we identified Windows Ultimate Extras as a unique series of add-ons that would be available to Windows Vista Ultimate customers. To date, we have released four sets of Extras – Windows Hold’Em, 16 Language Packs for the Windows multi-language user interface, Secure Online Key Backup, and Windows BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool. We want to let our Windows Vista Ultimate customers know that we are actively working to deliver the remaining Extras that we identified in January. Our goal is to provide the highest-quality, most secure and reliable offerings, and as a result we are continuing our work on these offerings. We apologize for taking so long to provide a status update to customers.

We intend to ship Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs by the end of the summer. We will not ship the last two Extras showcased in January (Windows DreamScene and the remaining 20 Language Packs) until they meet the high quality bar required by our enthusiastic customers—and we believe that we can achieve that bar by the end of this summer.

We also intend to deliver additional Extras in the future. In addition to Windows DreamScene and the remaining Language Packs, we plan to ship a collection of additional Windows Ultimate Extras over the next couple years that we are confident will delight our passionate Windows Vista Ultimate customers. We cannot identify dates or provide details at this time—but once we ship Windows DreamScene and the remaining Language Packs, we will provide more information about the next Extras.

Re: Microsoft apologizes for Ultimate Extras Embarrassment

When will they appoligise for the dodgy window activation deactivating random users saying they have made a hardware change when they havnt?

Both myself and a mate whom bought Vista Ultimate have had it deactivate.

His system was the same system from day one. And mine was the same bar when I plugged in my USB ir reciever for the media centre remote...

I was spoken to in a rude manner on the phone by the usual american india, and wasted countless hours to get to that point.

Least to say I have spent over $1000 in genuine microsoft products to date, and try to do everything right, and being treated like I had illegally aquired my OEM vista and spoken to in that manner was just a swift kick in the gut.

Sincerly dissapointed microsoft customer.

Re: Microsoft apologizes for Ultimate Extras Embarrassment

Yes I am hoping it doesnt deactivate again. Saddest part is in my retaliation my only option was to install XP Pro 64bit (legit oem i bought with my old system thats now in bits wasting space in the garage)

I tried Ubuntu (linux) but I need a microsoft based machine and linux isnt all as cracked up as it spose to be. I keep it on my laptop cause its abit faster and we only use it to browse the net.

So It was a win win situation for microsoft as I have already spent all my hard earned and I had to revert to using XP which is a microsoft product.

They are lucky linux is a fairly crappy unstable operating system for the average home user (if anyone disagrees with me thats fine, I know what I know and I am not prepared to say linux (ubuntu) is a great os).

So yeah, I press on and rather like vista, but its hard when you realise that as a microsoft customer your almost the equivalent to the stuff we flush down the toilet everyday.

Microsoft is finalizing testing of Windows DreamScene through a Technical Preview phase. We have made the preview release available on Windows Update. A final release will follow. We have also released additional content, described at the bottom of this post. Stay tuned for more updates.
I've been using the preview and to be honest had forgotten it is still awaiting release.
I really like its 2nd monitor support as I use one of my systems for presentations and it provides a gr8 background for displaying.
Wonder what MS will add to it?

The difference between a die hard Linux lover and someone (as you do) who feels its not ready for prime time is basically how much you love to tinker (think driver support) with things as opposed to having a work-ready system always at hand.
