making back up fails: error 0x80070001

I'm desperate...already spent hours on this problem. Remember I'm not so
familiar with computers as most of you seem...
The back up centre made me a first total back up on DVD. I want a weekly
back up but it fails every time because of error 0x 80070001.
Google'd and so on but can't find an answer.
I've got Windiows Vista Premium, 32 bits,

Stop error 0x80070001 is a "generic" type error caused by many factors.

You state "...made me a first total back up on DVD. ..." - was this a
complete PC backup or a file backup? A complete PC backup would require
more than one DVD and a file backup, depending on amount and size, would
    possibly require addiditonal DVDs.

The error may be the result of an incomplete initial backup.

    Dear AJR,
    Thank you for answering.
The intial back up is probably a complete one: it took nearly 4 dvd's and is
referred to as last back up.
When I start a new back up or when the weekly back up starts, the process
starts with making a shadow copy, files are searched for and copied to E: my
DVD writer. Then it stops showing "making of back up is not completed. An
error occured. Next iformation might help you solve the problem. Wrong
function. (0x80070001)"."Does this give anyone a clue to an answer?
