Vista - Windows Aero Glass unavailable

I installed Gears of War and it would freeze a little after starting.
Moreover, since I installed it I cannot use Windows Aero anymore. The option
for Windows Aero scheme is not even listed when I click on Personalize >
Window Color and Appearance. I uninstalled Gears of War, but still I can't
get Aero back.

My system rating is 4.8. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bits,
activated.

I fixed it. I found a registry fix that worked just fine, and I paste it here
in case someone is facing the same issue.


Ensure that two registry values are set:

a. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD)

b. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit
DWORD)

Note: You may need to create the DWM key and the two values if they do not
exist.

2. Restart the Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager service:

a. Open a command prompt with administrative privileges.

b. Type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line:

net stop uxsms

net start uxsms
