explorer errors, program errors, no task manager

New Sony laptop w/ Vista Home Premium has problems. At least once a day my
explorer windows will open and be blank, and I can't fix it without
rebooting. Also, about once a day, some program will cause an error and
close, but there's no rhyme or reason to which program it happens to.
Lastly, when all this happens and anything is frozen, I can tell it to open
task manager, but nothing happens. Any ideas? Stupid Sony told me to
optimize my startup and display settings. Not suprisingly, that did
nothing...

Hi Emily,

Since this is a new laptop, I would take the thing back to where you bought it and exchange it for another one.

If for some reason you cannot, you might try doing a Repair Install. This tutorial will show you how.

Unfortunately I can't return it, as much as I wish I could. Also, it didn't
come with a regular installation DVD, and even the OEM install stuff isn't on
a CD either. I'm going to try to search Sony's tech support stuff about
doing a repair install, see if they hid the files somewhere on my computer
already. Any ideas?
Thanks for the advice!

Emily,

Usually you can order the installation CD/DVD from the OEM (Sony) for just a small S&H fee or sometimes free. You will just need to contact Sony to see about getting it.
