Weird problems I just cant figure out..

poof where do I even start.

Well about 2 months ago I built a new computer with these specs and windows x64 ultimate

-Q6600 Intel G0 rev Quad core
-Evga 680i A1 mobo
-2gigs Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 CA4
-350gig seagate 16mb cache sata 2 drives in raid 0
-Evga 8800GTX 764mb
-Zalman CNPS9700
-Thermaltake 1000w 4rail PSU
-Thermaltake Armor case
-Fatal1ty X-FI Soundblaster card

So anyways to start with games run HORRIBLE well.. Select games and im not talking old games.

To start out with Crysis runs horrible. I did the Auto detect and it put almost everything on highest I go to play it. It looks like your trying to play it on a Barton 2500+ with a 9800pro on max its so horribly choppy. Its def not the Vsync either. I have a Samsung 21 inch 2ms LCD. I really duno what the deal with that is.

Next World of Warcraft runs so bad. Like 50-60 FPS tops with max settings and thats def not right. I just bought a nice new laptop with a 8700M and 2 gigs of pc-6400. On nearly the same settings just a little smaller res I get 250-300. Now if you go to run it in window mode on my desktop wow its even worse. Its like 100% chop.

Ontop of that when I first installed vista a week or so I noticed my HDD light was ALWAYS on. Well I went to defrag it one day and it was sched to defrag daily. So i turned that off but STILL almost 3 weeks later its still always "working" and I have no idea why. Is like its always moving files or something I just dont get it, Under the process list theres nothing using CPU , I will have to say I think my physical memory usage is a little higher then it should its about 48-52% always. I scored a 5.9 on the windows vista thing too then my ram scored a 5.4 no idea why.

I have got 2-3 blue screens in the last month and my 680i didn't spit any numbers at me so im gonna guess it was a video card driver issue or it was ram.

I just would like to have my games run how they should I dont understand it at all.... and the window mode thing is SO lame. I play most games in window mode because I like to multitask

Anther thing that I think is just a problem with my monitor or drivers or something is when I go to a res that is not my desktop res it makes it look like a "DvD" instead of resizing it for that res, I havnt figured that out yet...

Yes I have the newest drivers for everything. i just got the new Nov 3rd or 8th drivers from nvidia no change... So any help would be nice im like 2 seconds from trashing vista because it never did this on XP....

Re: Weird problems I just cant figure out..

You have installed latest nforce chipset drivers too ??? v 15.08

Turn off indexing , this is probably what's causing your constant hard disk
activity and slowing down your games. start > control panel >
Programs and features > turn windows features on or off

Yep I have those chip set drivers. I turned off indexing , still getting random HDD activity for 25-30 mins sometimes, sometimes longer just having it idle. I also updated bio today , no luck, video card drivers and sound card drivers are up to date. I dont get it.

Hi Bloodcraze. I say this alot when people are having random issues. Go into manage computer and have alook at your event viewer. If you are having a large number of errors in the last hour (over 10) check it out. If this does not help get back to me. Good luck.

Nope, no errors in the last 1 hour, but there was a bunch in the last 24 hours. Ontop of that now playing wow sometimes it will randomly just freeze up for a good 10 - 20 seconds

Re: Weird problems I just cant figure out..

I pretty much give up I almost think that vista just is not ready to be a "gaming" OS. I literately took like a 30-40fps hit going to Vista. I switched OS and Mobos thats it and I went to a better mobo besides so this dosnt seam right to me.....Im going to reformat with vista and see if it fixes it but if it dosnt then im def going back to XP....disappointing... ive literately looked everywhere for a "fix" and ive got it narrowed down to 4 things.

1. Ram is starting to die
2. Somethings screwed up with my sata controller on my mobo
3. Random hotfix in my computer that says its there but its not
4. Windows Vista x86 is just horrible

Im starting to lean tward #1 and #4 and somewhat #2. Ive built a lot of computers in the past but raid was never my thing. This time I have a raid 0 array and I think I payed for it. I honesty give up on it. Anther thing I REALLY dont like is because its a raid array 0 it put my drive as an E:// instead of C:// kinda anyoing...

Leme know if you think of anything else.

Re: Weird problems I just cant figure out..

I just installed Vista Ultimate & have 6 WD drives in my system with 3gb RAM,
Older 2.8ghz P4. My system was acting like something was draggin it dowm, I
had just installed fresh I didn't notice 2 of my drives were not there until
I was setting up my backups. Turns out my ASH1233 ATA controller wasn't
recognized by Vista, but it was causing lot of activity somehow. Pulled the
controller & lots better....new one coming. Another problem I found was my
new SATA 750gb WD hd was causing slowness & pausing in my Media Center Live
TV. I set my Record Storage option to another drive & wallah....no pausing
what so ever & performance is a lot better.

Another note ....wierd. In the begining after Vista install I noticed after
turning the Aero option on Vista seemed a lot smoother & better.

Good luck, Jon
