performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

Hi all.
I have just installed a pc with windows vista 64.
this is my hardware and the score of vista performance monitor

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz || SCORE: 5,9
Memory (RAM) 8,00 || SCORE: GB 5,9
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX || SCORE: 2,9
Memory video 2814 MB|| SCORE: 5,9
Primary HD 434GB free (466GB total)|| SCORE: 5,9

As you can see all the score are 5.9 (and thats good) except the
preformance for windows aero that is only 2.9 and i think it's strange
because i have a geforce 8800 GTX!

Is there something wrong? The driver of the video card is updated.
Someone can help me to fix this problem?
Thanks a lot

Re: performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

Video drivers are still 'work in progress' and it may pay you to try
different versions. Does the computer do all that you want, though. If it
does, then do not worry too much about the performance figures for now..

Re: performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

Thank you Mike for your answer.
But I think the problem is in the amount of RAM (8GB)

so I tried to use less memory (4 GB) and the system now works very
fast. (and so the Aero performance: 5.9)

But now I don't know what to do for using all the 8 GB of memory.
Any suggestions?
thanks a lot

Re: performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

Sometimes it is the board, sometimes it is because all memory sticks are not
matched, sometimes it is because all sticks are matched, crazy as that
seems.

By matched, I mean EXACTLY the same. As performance grows, it becomes ever
more critical to ensure that the sticks are not just more or less the same.

You need to purchase matched pairs from a supplier like Corsair. They are
more expensive purchased like this, but high performance is more or less
guaranteed.

Also pay particular attention to slots. Matched pairs need to placed in the
same color slot

Re: performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

Thanks again mike.
The memory are the same, sell in couple.
They are 4 "PC26400 2GB Dual CH Vista Upgrade" (i'll buy them for they
have "Vista" in their name eheh)
of Oc Technology.

So I'll try to upgrade the bios

Bye have a nice weekend!

Re: performance monitor: low performance on windows aero

I had a feeling that you would say something to the effect that all of the
memory is matched. :-)

Sometimes, it is down to mb design. Some boards are better than others, even
within the same make. There are so many choices which can be made, and there
is no telling that a choice made is the right one.

It makes for a very frustrating time, but isn't that why we buy PC's (apart
from them being relatively cheap)? Macs leave no scope for 'playing', and
yet they still have problems too..

Stay safe
