touch pad cursor keyboard very sensitive

Is anyone else having a problem with their cursor all of a sudden jumping to
another spot on the page? It seems as though the area around the touchpad
keyboard is so sensitive that any light touch makes the cursor jump. I
remember this happening when we bought our other Vista laptop and I had to
download a patch or like from microsoft but I can't find anything on the
    vista site

Most laptop computers have a utility that adjusts the sensitivity of the
    touchpad.
If you report your hardware, perhaps someone with similar hardware can guide
    you to the utility.

I am also having this problem. If I barely graze the touch pad the pointer
jumps and whatever I'm typing types in the wrong location. I cannot find any
pressure control mechanism anywhere. There was one on my old Dell. THIS IS
DRIVING ME NUTS! My computer is a dell inspiron 1520 with windows vista,
    home edition.

Goto http://support.dell.com Drivers and Downloads, Enter your Dell computer
type or Service Tag. Make sure Windows Vista is selected under OS. Goto
Mouse and Keyboards and expand the list. Click to Download the Dell - Driver
which Applies to: Touchpad / Pointing Stick to a folder. Find it and double
click, extract and install. Reboot. This driver upgrade is dated 2-1-2008 so
it looks like something Dell knows about. Also there are adjustments for the
touchpad in the Control Panel. Should be in the mouse settings.

Thank you! This seems to so far at least solved the problem. Regarding the
second part of your answer, however, the Dell help suggestions do not match
the menu selections available to me on my computer. I could find zero for
anything connected to pad, touch pad, etc. although that is where the help
    stuff directed me.
    Thanks again.
