| | Windows Update error 80070002 Yesterday the update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 showed up in my Windows Update on Vista 32 bit. It cannot install corrected and keeps giving me error 80070002. I have followed the directions that error code gives out to try and repair multiple times with no results, still the same problem. Now my Zune software also will not update because it says it requires that I have Microsoft Update, which I obviously do have. Does anyone have any thoughts? |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Windows Update error 80070002 Hello I had the same error yesterday but realised that Vista actually installs .NET Framework 3.0 so you do not need this update. I then simply uninstalled it from the installed programs (it was not installed correctly but did appear here though on my system) and then hid the update. I suggest it is an error and will most likely disappear in the next few days from Windows update. Cheers Mark |

It is quite normal to have .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 on the same machine. If an application was written to use version 1.1 then it must be installed on your machine. SteveT |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Windows Update error 80070002 Hello SteveT On my Vista Home Premium 32 laptop it did not have .NET framework 1.1 installed but I did have some software on their that I did remove that may have installed this. I had forgotten about that and most likely it left some settings behind that triggered the update. I thought as Vista only installed version 3.0 that it would be backward compatible but perhaps a programmer might be able to shed some further light on this. So most likely for me as I did not have the .NET framework 1.1 installed it could not apply the service pack. Perhaps those that are getting this with Vista should check to see if in fact 1.1 is actually installed at all. Cheers Makker |

| | RE: Windows Update error 80070002 Hi Shrike, You can download the needed microsoft.NET doing it manually using the link that some people have already posted on this blog. It does work then you should be ok. Also after you get the download done go back to windows update and there will be another update that you will need. Hopes this helps you.
