Vista - Truth in advertising? Just curious.

How much of Vista 64 is really 64bit: kernel,
drivers, etc....?

How long will it take to convert it all?

There are still some 32 Bit elements in Vista x64, and I suspect these will remain for as long as 32-Bit remains the dominant platform for developers.

The primary OS Kernel, and drivers are all 64 Bit.

While 32-Bit Operating System only became popular with the release of Windows 95, but 32 Bit computing has been around for more than 20 years. The 386 chip was 32 Bit.

While I'm hoping 64 Bit does not take as long to become mainstream, I suspect that there will not be a true "64-Bit only" OS for some time. I've heard rumors that the Vista successor, codenamed Windows Seven, will also be available in both 32 Bit and 64 Bit versions, and that whatever follows that will only be made in 64 Bit. But that is only a rumor, and should not be taken literally until we get closer to the final release of Windows Seven, which is due in only about 2 years or so.
