| | Vista machine acting slow This newly installed Vista machine is acting slow. Sometimes there is hesitaion when typing. When opening a program it takes a while. The internet connection gets lost and comes back( I am looking into the wireless settings). What I want to learn is what tasks are running and what services are running? Are any of these tasks and services not needed to be on when computer boots. I just bought the MS Vista Admin Pocket Consultant by Stanek. I am experienced with XP |

It's best to put it to 2 GB though, just to be safe. I think all the eye candy in Vista might be too heavy for it to be able to maintain at XP's speed. ![]() |

I just bought the MS Vista Admin Pocket Consultant by Stanek. I am experienced with XP You can see what tasks are running by looking in the "Applications" and "Processes" tab in the Task Manager. (Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) The Resource Monitor can be a great detailed tool in letting you know what tasks and stuff is running. See: Resource Monitor This tutorial will show you how to see what Services are started or not and what the Startup type is. There is also a link to a couple of great advice guides to help decide what to set the services to. See: Services You might find some of these tips helpful in improving the performance of Vista.
