| Newbie | Re: unexpected shutdown to bluescreen Here is some more information: Each time after I restart the computer and the blue screen momentarily appears (only solved by turning off and back on the computer) I see in the Event Viewer multiple instances of these errors: Servicing 4385 and Servicing 4375. Also, I tried to install Windows Vista SP1, which resulted in an error code 0x800736cc. I had installed the lastest BIOS, chipset and any other pertinent driver upgrades for my system. Any further ideas? |

| ɠɛɐǨ | Re: unexpected shutdown to bluescreen Hi Johnny_mango, Have you tired installing the Standalone version of Service Pack 1? Checkout this thread for more information... Why SP1 may not be available for you and how to get it Steven |

| Newbie | Re: unexpected shutdown to bluescreen Thanks again for the reply. I believe I did install that one, as the service pack did not appear in Windows Update. I suspect something is badly wrong with all the updates it tries to install, as I see those repeated errors in the Event Viewer upon each restart, like it thinks they aren´t relevant, or it fails to install them correctly. I found this thread: Dell Inspiron 1420 Blue Screen when restart - Page 2 - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion and will try that suggestion and post back here with the results. Cheers. |

| Guest | Re: unexpected shutdown to bluescreen My Vista started to update itself. After Vista downloaded Service Pack 1 it asked me to confirm installation, so I started to install it. It took more than 1 hour until Vista installed Service Pack on my laptop. Then I restarted the system and it stopped working at all. Vista gives me the blue screen saying that I might have a virus and asks me to insert Vista CD to repair the system. My laptop doesn't even work right now and it doesn't run Vista. |

| Newbie | Re: unexpected shutdown to bluescreen If you restart the system, I believe you can press F12 or F2 to choose the starting mode. Therein, you can choose "Last known good configuration" which is the configuration which was used the last time you successfully booted the system. In this way, you should be able to go back to before you installed the service pack. If you do a repair with the Vista cd you might be able to go back to the restore point from before installing the SP. Good luck!! Btw, the last link appeared to work and I can re-start my comp now, although the service pack installation also failed - perhaps the hibernation thing kicked in. |
