Re: okay asking again services error

Oh God!!......sorry I also have an Acer that came with XP and qualified for
the "free" VistaPremiumUpgrade and had a slight Vista problem with it.I
finally just got pissed off and redid the damn thing. If you can still
access the OS I would suggest you save all of your work and then do a
Restore to when 1st bought.
Might I also suggest what I did...I went and bought an External Hard Drive
and Enclosure that connects via USB and the Program Acronis True Image.
With it I created an Emergency Boot Disk and then Imaged the Acer HD to the
External HD. I do this about every 3 days.
The Boot disk will start the system running Acronis and from there you can
restore the Image back to the original HD.
The program will also Image to DVD ....or back up incrementally to DVD.

This has ...so far...saved my bacon once.
I wish you luck..but if it was me I'd wipe it and reinstall

Re: okay asking again services error

Peter I do that the 6 disc backup of the original settings. I was having a
problem about a month ago, and took the laptop to where I bought it and they
got it to work and then burnt me the backup disc's. That's what I thought I
might have to do, good thing I don't have too much installed on it because I
was waiting to get a bigger hard drive ( it came with only a 80GB) the only
thing is I will have to uninstalled that pesky Norton Internet security
program, I hate that program, uses too much resources. I use Acronis on my
pc and love it, it has helped me too, but I don't backup like you do, maybe
once a month, I have my hard drive partitioned into 4 drives.

Re: okay asking again services error

Most people seem to hate Norton for the resource hog it is..
..I have BitDefender on one System..Kapersky on another but for the 2 laptops
I just use AVG...its free. And I still like Zone Alarm and use it on all 4
systems.
I have 4 external HD...one for each system.All imaged with Acronis...I have
True Image loaded on every computer and use it often...
The Acer laptop has a recovery Partition....Is it still on your HD?? I know
there is a F.? to push at startup to activate that recovery
partition.......I would look it up for you but the Laptop and manual is in
another town at the present time.

Re: okay asking again services error

My acer has Empowering Techonology program which has 4-5 utilities one is
called eRecovery Management. You click on that to either backup or to
restore, is that what you mean? The hard drive has a c drive called Acer a
D drive called data and another part that I found out from the tech is part
of the c drive partition where windows is installed, it's a section saved
only for the windows files, is that what your talking about? Mine is called
PQService

Attached is a photo of my error when I right-click on a service to disable
it or start it, etc.

I also went into event viewer and I can't find anything other than this:
Boot-start or system start drivers failed, pcmcia and this one windows
cannot load classes registry file DETAIL: the specified path is invalid

Now I need help here and I;m getting tired of asking this question. If you
cannot help please lead me to where I can get help

Re: okay asking again services error

Hi
That's what I was talking about.......the Empowering Technology/eRecovery
part lets you reinstall just the Operating system. The "other" part of the
Hard drive is the "recovery" partition where all of the programs that came
with the Acer are located...the eRecovery program accesses that partition
and reinstalls from that partition.
Just to clarify this : you have one Hard Drive divided into 3
partitions...C......D........and the Recovery Partition.
You should never safe or install any thing to that "Recovery Partition"
I would take you thru this step by step but like I said My Acer is in
another town ...and I wont be home for another 5 days.
If you read all of the prompts before clicking and take your time you will
be fine...if you run into a problem you have my email

Re: okay asking again services error

Yes the drive is partition into a C called Acer then a D called Data and
then this one called PQService, I imagine that is the one your talking
about. Okay mine has this: Restore system to factory default, or recover
system from CD\DVD, or Reinstall applications/drivers. I would pick the
restore system to factory default?

Re: okay asking again services error

Yes you would............and then when that is all done and over with
uninstall Norton and install the anti virus of your choice before you
connect to the net to do the upgrades.

Re: okay asking again services error

Okay one more question, will that remove my applications I already have
installed? So I know to save or mark down which ones I had installed on
there so I can reinstall them.
