| | Disk Consistency How do I correct disk consistency issues? After my laptop boots up and prior to the logon password window I see "One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel but it is strongly recommended you continue." Occasionally it locks up and it becomes necessary to use task manager to unlock the running application. Sometimes task manager does not load and I resort to manual reboot by pressing the on/off button. Can somebody help me? |

| | Re: Disk Consistency Hi, If you are continually prompted, it could be a sign that the drive is failing. I would suggest you download and run a drive diagnostic utility from the manufacturer to ensure this is not the case. Otherwise, you can either try forcing a full disk scan or turning off the dirty bit that causes the prompt. First, open an elevated command prompt by typing CMD into the search line, then right click the program menu entry and select 'run as administrator'. To turn off the bit, run: chkntfs /d To force a full scan, run: chkdsk c: /r and follow the prompts to schedule this to occur on reboot as you will not be able to lock the disk while it's in use. When this routine completes, it should also clear the dirty bit. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Astiman" <Astiman@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7C0E4789-A226-41ED-A54C-5C6E2908C7D0@xxxxxx Quote: > How do I correct disk consistency issues?
