write caching on disk. Could it damage the HD?

Hi.

1. Is it safe to enable write caching on disk using a notebook? Or it could
somohow demage the HD?
2. Is it possible to measure how much memory improvements i get by using a
2gb flash drive as readyboost?

tks

Hi Quick Parts,

Q1:
No, it cannot hurt your hard drive. With this enable and you lose power, you will just lose the data used by the hard drive in the cache stored in RAM instead of on the hard drive.

Q2:
There are some 3rd party programs that can measure this, but I do not know of any off the top of my head. Sorrry.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: write caching on disk. Could it damage the HD?

Hi,

1. It's enabled on my laptop. it won't damage anything, but you do have to
be mindful of potential loss of power. You may lose data from a work in
progress if a sudden power loss occurs.

2. Directly measure? No, there is no facility for that. Whether or not it
will be useful for you depends on how much memory you have installed and
what the demands on the system are.

Re: write caching on disk. Could it damage the HD?

Hi Rick.

I have another problem. I did the procedure to enable it but the button
"Apply" never becomes enabled, so the only thing i can do is click "ok" but
it doesnt save the changes. Any suggestion?

Tks

Hi,

The system may not fully support it in certain modes (like battery vs.
plugged).
