Why did it restart

I have been having trouble with my computer crashing, and I thought I had fixed the problem, but sometime last night my computer restarted. Is there anyway to tell whether this restart was due to automatic updating or a system failure? Is there anyway to have Vista tell me when it restarts due to automatic updating, or will I just have to turn that off?

RE: Why did it restart

2nd Tuesday of each month is auto-updates day; unless something major happens
in between.
