Files Exist but Folders are Shown EMPTY!

I have purchased a notebook computer (Lenovo T61) last October. The software
seems can't run smoothly all the time. The performance will get slow and the
tool bar with clock, calendar, etc. can't be shown properly. I have to
recover the system at least once every month since my purchase.

A few days ago, my computer was in trouble again but this time, the computer
"hang" during quick recovery. I had to terminate it and restarted the
computer. However, a warning "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" appeared and I couldn't get
to window vista, no matter how many times I proceeded system recovery.

Since no CD or DVD was provided when I purchased this computer, I had to buy
a new VISTA (home basic) and install it in my computer. I can get to window
vista and a folder "window.old" is created to save my old window vista's
staff. But I can't find all the files I have saved in the computer again! I
try to search the missing files in my computer by using other software. I
find them but just aren't shown. The folders were transparent but after I
clicked something about the accessment rights, they are not. However, their
file sizes remain zero. I wonder if I can use any method to solve this
problem. The current method I'm using is a software called FinalData. It aims
at recovering the files deleted. But it is very troublesome when look at a
lot of files and use my USB flash disk to transfer the data to another
    computer.

    Thanks!

Have you tried to make all files and folders visible?

I have made all the folders visible. But the main point is the files inside
the old window's folders seem have to been deleted. I have used a software to
check the files. They exist but a lot of them have been destroyed. Even I
recover the files, such as pictures, they can't be opened properly. For
instance, most of the pictures I took by me DC can't be shown. I have just
transfer the files from my DC to my notebook computer for one week only. I
really want to recover the pictures as they can't be re-taken. >.<
