strange decrease in WEI

just got my pc back from technicial support at computer supermarket.com they replaced my motherboard and Hard Drive and as soon as i got it back i wanted to get back into my gaming... i had a few crashes with cod4 and was quite worried about my pc, as i had no problem running it before i sent the pc back for repairs... so, naturally i check the windows experience index to see if everything is ok... well, the graphics card was where it always was so it couldn't have been that... but whats that? the ram has decreased by a value of 1.1 (from 5.9 to 4.8). surely the 4gb ram i had should have still been the same speed? there's been no change of those parts have there?

i've noticed that it seems to run a little slower than it used to back before repairs to... do you think they may have switched the ram with some less effective ram?

thanks

It's possible the RAM was switched. But more likely in my opinion, seeing
as this seems to be a custom PC (you didn't mention any brand) it was
originally tweaked (memory timings, voltage and FSB) and now they're
probably at stock/auto-detect settings (forgot to tweak the new mobo after
swapping it).

I know my system (EVGA 680i) using the RAM I have (G-Skill) when first
assembled had a RAM score of 5.4, but is now at 5.9 with some tweaks.

That may be the case with yours as well.

Give more details, or go to the website forum for the brand of motherboard
you have for more details on tweaks you might be able to make to get your
score back to 5.9

On the other hand, if you are not familiar with hardware and such (which I
suspect as that is why you are dealing with your vendor rather than doing it
yourself) you might just as well leave well enough alone if the system is
running stable. Tweaks and over-clocking can lead to instability if you
push it too far or do it incorrectly, possibly even damaging components.

Re: strange decrease in WEI

well the mobo i have now is a ASRock 4Core1333-FullHD, used to be a Foxconn P35A01 and if i remember rightly the memory had a speed of 800mhz, where it's now 667... the FSB hasn't changed so i still got all 3.00ghz of dual core power...

the mobo says it can handle ddrII800 and from what it sounds like it probably, and i have 3 cooling fans to help with temperature too, so should i whack it back up to 800 or should i talk to the guys at CSM bout it?

If your memory can handle the higher rate, then sure. But that's not all
there is to tweaking memory. There is also the voltage and the timings
(like should it run at 5-5-5-12T, etc...)

Your best best is either an over clocking forum, or more specifically a
forum hosted by the make of the board. (like EVGA and XFX have such
forums).

Re: strange decrease in WEI

well strangely enough it's really slowed down now... takes around 6 mins just to shut down now, instead of the 30 secs it was 5 hours ago... i didn't do anything to the speed of the memory, just happened... i'm kinda worried now... getting audio problems like disruption e.t.c. and i cant even reformat because it's so slow it doesn't want to load up anything for that apart from the background and eventually the mouse, but i'm waiting about 15 mins for just that... definitely gonna have a chat with CSM about this... so p*ssed off...

btw, had to send this message on my old computer... thats how bad it is

[EDIT]
well i just switched it on again and it seems to be running at a reasonable speed again, nowhere near what it used to be though... ram latency times are already set to 5.0-5-5-15... i'll check around for such forums... thanks
