Applications Failing to Work on Vista Because of a DirectX Issue

I have a problem with few applications, which used to work fine on my
previous Windows XP Home Edition.

Now, on my new Windows Vista Home Edition, whenever I try running
these application I get a popup saying "you need to update your
DirectX to version 8.1 or higher".

I checked on the DirectX I have, and it turned out to be version 10!

How can I run the applications again??

Thank you...

Hi,

Either:

a) Run the applications in compatibility mode. Right click the icon, choose
properties and check the compatibility tab or

b) Check with the software vendor for a patch or update the program to a
Vista compatible version.

Your graphics card also needs to have native support for the DirectX
software require.

Rick and JW thanks to both of you. I tried all your suggestions among
others but unfortunately they didn't work. After many searches,
downloading and installing some "K-Lite Coded Pack" resolved the
problem! Thanks again.

Re: Applications Failing to Work on Vista Because of a DirectX Issue

DirectX9 on Vista is an emulated version and does not contain all the recent
commands. If you download the DirectX9.0c update, DirectX9 will suddenly
work fine for most applications.

Full-blown: (212MB)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

This is the easiest method:
Redistributables: (44MB)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

All you really need are four specific files to make most applications work.
