Desktop no longer functions. Everything is there (icons, background, etc).
Task Manager is available. Start button 'shutdown, sleep, restart' stopped
responding. Event viewer Info: Log Name: Application

Date: 3/3/2008 10:18:33 AM
Event ID: 9010
Task Category: None
Level: Information
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Joy-PC
Description:
A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (3848)
Event Xml:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
<System>
<Provider Name="Desktop Window Manager" />
<EventID Qualifiers="16384">9010</EventID>

Also received Event ID 9013 at same time.
I'm afraid to manually shut down for fear the darn thing won't restart. Any

Re: Winows Desktop Manager Stopped

Hi,

What were you doing just prior to this happening?

From Task Manager, you might try this: On the processes tab, locate
explorer.exe. Select it and then click on 'end process'. Go to the
applications tab, click "new task" and enter explorer.exe to restart the
shell.

Failing that, from the new task prompt, run services.msc. Locate the Desktop
Session Manager and restart the service.

Re: Winows Desktop Manager Stopped

Thank you very much. Resetting explorer seemed to correct the problem. If it
happens again, I'll try your 2nd suggestion also.
