| | Disk Consistency When I turn on my Acer Aspire 5570Z, which runs, Vista Home Premium, I see the following, "One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency." Then it runs the first three stages of Scan Disk before rebooting and loading Vista. Can this be corrected? Does this error mean harddrive failure or operating system failure or is this normal? How can it be corrected; for example, (1) install of a new harddrive with a clean install of Vista, or (2) do a clean install of Vista over the existing installed Vista, or (3) get a new laptop? If its #3 what would you recommend, I want to install games (like the Myst series or Beowulf) and run Office XP Pro, Corel WordPerfect Suite, NIS 2007. I understand if this question cannot be answered. Just seeking advice. Thank you |

| | Re: Disk Consistency Hi, (4) Open an elevated command prompt and run chkntfs /d from the prompt. Click start, type CMD. Right click the entry that appears in the start menu and choose "run as administrator" to open the elevated prompt. If that fails to clear the dirty bit that causes the disk checker to run, then I'd suspect your NIS software is causing it. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Astiman" <Astiman@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:0ECD970C-F318-4F04-8676-25F2DB3B8E84@xxxxxx Quote: > When I turn on my Acer Aspire 5570Z, which runs, Vista Home Premium, I see > the following, "One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency." > Then > it runs the first three stages of Scan Disk before rebooting and loading > Vista.
