antivirus programs "freebies" vs "payups"

Hello everyone,
This question has always been in the back of my mind.
There are a few free antivirus programs available in the web sites, and there are a few we have to pay for. Now, apparently the " freebies " do the job adequately. How then the ones we have to pay for manage to exist. Do I miss something ?

Hi t-4-2,

The free ones, like Avast or AVG, do a great job. The pay ones usually offer more features and options that the free ones do not. You just need to compare them to see if it is worth paying for the extras.

Thank you. Next time my McAfee expires, I'll get a freebie. Some said Avast is better than AVG. True ?

Avast is what I use, and I think it is better in my opinion. Plus, you can customize the skin for it.

Your welcome. You will need to register Avast though, and it is good for a year. After that, you just need to re-register. It's still completely free.
