Vista - Back up Trouble Need Help

I have a 500 gig HD Western Digital and I am using it as a primary back up
for Windows Vista Home Edition back up system .I noticed that I am using 85
% already and it has only been backing up for a few months now? The Main HD
that is being backed up is only 150 Gig . I am not running that much on it
actually most of the main HD is still available.

Can anyone please let me know how I can get this to purge and get more space
on my Western Digital HD.

Backing up should not take that much space . This HD should be able to last
for years to come I don't process that much data. I can't understand why my
HD is so full already . When I try to go and find the folders not much is
available to see it's invisible but my pie chart says full?

Any Assistance is appreciated.

My computer generated a lot of junk I found the old back up files and
deleted them all and re-ran the Windows Vista Back up software and now I
have 80% ,more disc space now.
