Main user account slower than other accounts...what gives?

I recently installed vista ultimate, and the main user account is horribly
slow. Windows explorer takes several seconds to show the drivers, and
clicking on folders and files takes 2-3 seconds to see/open.

My wife's account that I created is perfectly fine...runs fast and smooth. I
created a test account, and sure enough, it is perfect as well. So I
transfered all my files, outlook files, etc , to the new account and deleted
the original main account.

but now the new "main" account is slow again! Going back to my wife's
account, and yet another test account, all works perfectly fine.

what gives? PLEASE HELP.

ps- I disabled index searching, and still nothing.

Maybe, you are loading all YOUR Programs at startup, AND loading files to
YOUR Desktop.

No...I checked already.

the funny thing is, I created yet another account this morning, and moved
all my docs, etc, to it.

runs perfectly so far.

i don't get it.

Re: Main user account slower than other accounts...what gives?

Is the main user account set up as an 'admin' or 'standard' user? I had a similar problem after I purchased my computer. I was using my admin login all the time early on to install programs and hardly ever used my 'standard user' login. Over time I noticed a gradual decrease in speed in my admin account. I've been using my 'standard user' account daily for the last 4 months with no decrease in speed. The only time I use my 'admin' account is for installing and uninstallin programs and maintenance.

Maybe because administrator tasks can only run under an admin account and
it is running needed tasks that makes it seem slower? I expect that is
temporary until Vista self tunes itself. I only use the admin account on
Vista so have never tested it to see if there is a difference.

well this is beyond frustrating!!!!!!!!! AARRRRRRGGHHH

so I have created 3 (yes, THREE) different accounts, and all work fine for
the 1st couple of days, but eventually they start exhibiting the same
behavior...extremely slow!

right now, when I click on explorer, it takes 3 secs to open, and when I
click on C: drive, it takes about 5 secs to show the contents.....the bar on
the top starts going green and slowly moves until 5 seconds later and then
shows the contents. ALso, when previewing pics, it is pain staking slow to
go from one to the next.

switched over to my wife's account, and perfect, all runs beautiful.

there is gotta be a simple answer.

ps- I noticed I have a pagefile.sys of nearly 4 GB! and a hiberfil.sys also
near 3.5gb...is this normal?

Re: Main user account slower than other accounts...what gives?

After I bought my computer I noticed there was a lot of "disk activity" even while I wasn't using the computer. I would leave it on all night and let all of the indexing and miscellaneous services run their course. Guy de Montmorency-Laval had mentioned that Vista is self tuning and I agree that over time it will subside. There is a great gadget I use called Top Processes. It will show you everything that is currently using memory and processor usage.

I have my page file set at 3GB so I don't think 4GB is too much. Do you have a lot of scheduled tasks running in the background(virus scans, automatic backups, defrag...etc.)?
