| | CPU Load problem Vista RC1 - When launching Task manager it constantly shows 40%-60% CPU load, even when no other application is running. System (NT kernel & System) process takes around 10%, svchost takes 20%-30% and System Idle process is around 50% (this one takes no less then 97% on my XP, same hardware). Is this normal? [P4HT/3GHz/1GB] TIA |

| | RE: CPU Load problem I have an issue that is mind-blowing: I did an upgrade to Vista over XP Pro, SP2. I have word 2002. I have a document that has tables in it. When I open that document, my cpu utilization jumps to 100% and I get a rapid flashing of wait/cursor while the document is open and it is word.exe that is causing the spiking jumps. If I open a menu, which takes focus off the document, then, after a delay, the cpu monitor drops down into the low teens and high single digits again. I did some experiments today and opened a bunch of different documents. Only a small handful cause this strange behavior and to nowhere near the cpu jump my one document with all the tables in it has. In one instance that I did not repro, when I closed Word, I still had 99% cpu, and checking processes it was explorer. I ended the process and cpu meter dropped right back down. Further experiment: I can open Word with just a blip on the meter. I just happened, with a blank document, to open the Page Setup and as soon as I did so, I started getting the cpu cycles jumping up and hitting 100%. I need to uninstall and reinstall my Office XP small business edition but have been holding off hoping I would get some answer from someone before I do so. | | RE: CPU Load problem I am having the same problem I have a Core 2 duo and constantly have about 80% of one of my cores at load. | | RE: CPU Load problem Same exact problem, I'm glad i read this, I was very close to opening up a new processor. Mine also started all of a sudden, 3 or 4 days ago I guess. Even in basic mode I can barely watch tv, whereas before I used aero and a tv window in the background of whatever application I was using. Ive been jacking with the visual options for a few minuites with little success. "Bert" wrote: > I'm seeing the same problem. | | RE: CPU Load problem Hey I think I found the problem Apparently the high cpu usage is from hardware interupts. I am still researching on how to fix it though "Jason D" wrote: > I am having the same problem I have a Core 2 duo and constantly have about > 80% of one of my cores at load. | | RE: CPU Load problem I have finally figured out the problem. It appears to be a driver conflict. To see if this is the problem on your system download "Process Explorer v10.2" from sysinternals.com. If you see 30-40% to Hardware Interupts. A driver is your problem. This took me forever to figure out. My conflict was with my sound card. Well good luck to the rest of yall. thanks for all your help.
