| | Slow Boot Problem I know its an age old problem, but this is baffling me.My computers clean, defragged and running fine. But booting takes forever. In safe Mode it starts fine, the windows bar only goes across 3 times before log on page. But normally the bar goes across 25 times before continuing. In the boot log the prefetchbootinit seems to be taking about 40 secs, and causing the problem. I only have 5 startup programs which have been disabled, but problem persists. Ive cleaned out the prefetch folder, still a problem. What i have noticed though, is that the readyboot folder in the prefetch folder is always empty. Apparently this is needed to speed up the boot.Could this be the problem? and does anyone know if the readyboot folder should be empty?Thanx in advance. | vista x64 | Re: Slow Boot Problem Hello, RE:Faster Laptop boot up times. Not sure if this helps anyone but I have found that changing the service WLAN Autoconfig to automatic, Then disabling, in my case Dell WLan tray service service helped cut boot times from 50 seconds to 40 secs. My comp. is 2.4 c2duo and 160gb 7200rpm. 4gb .and running vista ultimate x64. I have set alot of other 'background' services to delayed start which has brought the time down to 33 seconds. Hope this works as it did for me. G |

| x64 | Re: Slow Boot Problem Booting in safe mode loads minimal drivers. Longer progress bar time in normal mode indicates to me that Windows is have a hard time loading a driver that is not loaded in safe mode. I would first start with making sure all of my hardware drivers are updated. |
