How do I make 64 bit IE my default so IE links "will" respond

I have a Dell Studio 1737 with Vista x64. Vista defaults to IE 32. Many links
from IE and Windows Mail will freeze (not responding) with the default. I
have found multiple sites that discuss this problem but none of then details
a way to fix this. The nearest suggested Control Panel-Defaults but EI 64 was
not shown as an option. A 2007 posting requested MS to fix this. Doesn't look
lake they did.

Does anyone have a solution?

Re: How do I make 64 bit IE my default so IE links "will" respond

Hi, Snowman.

Are you sure?

Most complaints are in the opposite direction, saying that Flash and some
other applications won't work with 64-bit IE. Can you give us some examples
of links that won't respond with 32-bit IE? Any specific filename
extensions that require 64-bit IE? I'm not aware of any.

It's easy enough to make 64-bit IE the default on your own computer. Just
change any shortcuts or icons to point to the iexplore.exe in Program Files,
rather than the default "Program Files (x86)". I've left 32-bit IE the
default on my Start menu, but have also created a shortcut for 64-bit IE and
pinned that to the Start menu, too, naming it "IE8 beta - 64-bit".
