RE: Desktop Icons Disappear

Go to C:\Users\*your name*\AppData\Local and delete the icon cache.

Reboot! The icon cache will be rebuilt.

I suggest using the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to solve the issue:
(windows key stops working ...)

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command
Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2.Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all system files and will recover the
corrupted ones.

3.Please restart the computer and recheck the original issue.

Please let us know if this step has resolved it.

Re: Desktop Icons Disappear

Right click on desktop. Go to VIEW option and then look for "Show Desktop
Icons" and make sure there is a tick against it. If there isn't, that is why
they aren't showing. Restore tick to make them show. Do that if you need
them straight away.

Apart from that, check the keyboard is properly plugged in and if a USB
keyboard, that it isn't a dud. If properly plugged in and a USB one AND the
keyboard isn't a dud, check for USB faults on your computer. You may be able
to correct them by getting the motherboard disk out again and looking for
any USB drivers and just reinstalling them.

Re: Desktop Icons Disappear

I have had the same problem and none of the two solutions suggested here worked.

If you are using a laptop/Notebook try to change your power options to maximum, that solved the problem on my laptop.
