Try hooking up an external monitor and see if that works.

Connect an external monitor and see if that works.

If it does, you have a severe hardware problem.

You may want to check for an operator error first. Check you manual for a
Fn+{another key} combination that turns the monitor off. For example, I have
two Dell computers. Both use Fn+right arrow key to turn monitor off.
However, there is no standard combination.
