Registry cleaner

Is there any registry cleaners out for Vista yet? I spoke with a live rep
from CleanMyPC for Registry Cleaner and they said it worked but the product
info page doesn't claim that. I prefer Registry Mechanic but again it doesn't
state support for Vista.

Re: Registry cleaner

I think you're crazy to run a registry cleaner to start with and running one
designed for XP on Vista is even crazier.

Re: Registry cleaner

Well I have used Registry First Aid and System Mechanic for years and
whatever they do to Windows XP, well it has been great. I have had a real
performance increase from both programs on several different systems. I'm not
going to use any program not designed for Vista but I am anxiously awaiting
for a Vista registry cleaner.

Registry cleaners are at best worthless and at worst dangerous.

Re: Registry cleaner

Have you actually measured a speed increase? The only increase would be a
very negligible decrease in the time it takes Windows to load. This would be
milliseconds not seconds. The way the registry works in NT based versions of
Windows is very different from Win95 based versions. It's an old debate with
very vocal proponents on both sides but most people who have worked on
computers for any length of time generally don't recommend using registry
cleaner programs. The way the registry in Vista works with virtual registry
locations I would be doubly cautious about ever using a registry cleaner
with Vista.

Re: Registry cleaner

Yes I am a very vocal proponent of the registry cleaner. I started computing
in 1988. A few years later I was the person in town to bring your comoputer
to for repair. I got my A+ certification last year and opened my own shop.
Every article I read about computer maintenance says to use a registy
cleaner. There are dozens of registry cleaners on the market. It seems
strange that many people are that misled. Many of my customers have mentioned
how much better thier computers run after I clean out thier registry (Win 98,
ME & XP). Maybe there isn't one for Vista. That was my question. I use
registry cleaners. I am a firm believer in them. I really didn't want or care
about your opinion about them. I just wanted some input as to whether any
were released yet.
