Aero is not working!

Hi, everyone!

After long studying of many posts on Aero, I found out that my Intel
Graphics Card version 915 doesn't have a WDDM driver, so the Aero cannot be
turned on. I was wondering if there's any possibility of bypassing the system
check and enabling Aero on my Graphics Card? I tried Changing registry code
(the one that needs stopping and starting uxsms service after changing values
from 0 to 1 and 2). However, I heard that there are also some other possible
ways of doing it, like comletely deceiving system to believe that you have a
card with WDDM. Could you please help me enabling Aero?

Thank you!

Eugene.

No. The lower end Intel graphics chipsets cannot support Aero, and cannot
be forced to do so. Only cards that fully support WDDM can run Aero.

Re: Aero is not working!

Yes, the same on my PC, which uses an Intel 915G mainbord. As far as i know,
if the mainbord is Intel 945G,the Graphics card on it supports the AERO

I'm afraid that it doesnt support Aero for a good reason - it can't handle
it. It's not being denied on some technicality, that chip simply can't
handle it.

If you really want Aero, you'll have to invest £40/$50 on one of the many
lower-end cards that will work. Is it worth it? For me, yes - because I'm
shallow and I like shiny things. For you? That's up to you.

Personally, i don't think many onboard gfx chips will add much to the Vista
'experience'...

Re: Aero is not working!

I would personally recommend that you upgrade your graphics card so that
Aero can be enabled. This has more of an effect than just "shiny, pretty"
graphics. Avalon actually allows the graphics work to be offloaded from the
CPU to the graphics processor so that the CPU can do other things. Aero
Basic keeps the old GDI+ legacy alive by relying heavily on the CPU to
render the pixels.

Read Paul Thurrott's post at
http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/winvista_05c.asp for more info on the
CPU vs. GPU work when comparing Aero to Aero Basic.

RE: Aero is not working!

I also have a 915 chip in my laptop. It will be interesting when Vista is
released to the general puplic in January and people with low end graphic
chips find out they can't run Aero Glass.

I would upgrade the GPU if I could, but I don't think it is possible on my
laptop.

RE: Aero is not working!

Those integrated intel graphics cards are such a mess...

I think it's going to come back to bit the manufacturer in the butt.

RE: Aero is not working!

Let's hope so.

I know I will refuse to buy a new PC or LapTop that has an integrated video
chip. Also, I am telling everyone I know when buying a new PC to ask about
the graphics card, and if it is integrated just say NO.

Slightly offtopic warning....

I've never used integrated graphics for my home PC, and was lucky enough to
get a new laptop with a decent ati firegl card (~X1400/1600 I think).

But today I just installed SUSE linux 10 on a PIV 3.2Ghz desktop which had
Intel 945 graphics, and was surprised to have xgl working.

If you've not seen it it's a desktop manager with lots of graphical sizzle.
More so than vista (but less useful...). Anyway I had a 4 way desktop
wrapped around a virtual cube I could rotate in real time, translucent
"wobbly" windows, background rain, every animation in sight, and it worked
very well.

See http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/features/xgl/
or http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...65514994593432

So I'm not saying this is better than vista to use, but it holds out hope
for at least the newer integrated chips.

So it's not all bad.......

RE: Aero is not working!

Hi,

If you are using Intel 915 chipset without aonther graphic chipset onboard,
goto http://www.petitiononline.com/intel915/petition.html and sign it. The
owner of petition will send this list to Intel that we are in trouble.

Cheers,
